River Valley Regional Food Bank Summer Essentials

River Valley Regional Food Bank Summer Essentials

Rath Auto Resources has worked closely with the River Valley Regional Food Bank for the past few years. With every car sold, we allow our customers to choose one of five pre-selected local charities of their choice. One of the options available to them is the River Valley Regional Food Bank. At the end of month, we tally up the votes and make donations on their behalf. We love the food bank and we know how vital their cause is to our neighbors and community as a whole.

Summer time…a time most people are excited for.  It is the gateway that sets the platform for family barbecues, picnics in the park, or an afternoon hiking adventure.  However, for many children here in the River Valley, summer break is not a time of fun with friends and family.  With no school lunch program to rely on, summer just means three months without consistent meals.  It means hunger.  This is a crucial time, when children and families are struggling with hunger in our community and face the summer months of wondering where their next meal will come from.

Now is the time to come together to get the word out about the River Valley Regional Food Bank, secure donations, and obtain volunteers to make the summer months a time of fun with friends and family.  With the various donations we receive and the wonderful volunteers who jump in and lend a helping hand, children and families in our community have a place to go where they can receive healthy, nutritious meals.  They can put food on their tables throughout the summer.  Your support makes it possible for many local programs and organizations like that of the River Valley Regional Food Bank to help even more hungry individuals and families this summer.  With that being said, now is a critical time for us to come together and get the word out.

Here at the Food Bank, we distribute food to food pantries.  We have 184 active pantries in our 8 counties.  The food pantries then distribute the food to the families.  It is estimated that 62,000 families are served.  Fort Smith currently feeds children in 19 different schools.  I have placed a call to the school board to see if I can get an estimated number of children served.  Last year, we distributed a little over 7 million pounds of food to our community and we are hoping to increase that this year.  $1 feeds 5 people a meal!!  It is amazing how it works, but I am so very grateful!

The food bank serves eight counties in West Central Arkansas, where just over 305,000 people reside. We source the most nutritious foods we can find and provide that food to about 62,000 people in the area.  A total of 196 member agencies create a far reaching network of food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, churches and nonprofit groups that get food to people in need of assistance.

They are a member of Feeding America, a national organization supporting more than 200 food banks across the country. They are also a member of the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance.  As a community partner of the United Way of Fort Smith Area, they support our other UW partners in any way we can.

The Food Bank is always in need of individuals, families, groups or organizations, church missions and businesses looking to serve the community in a meaningful way.  Should you wish to volunteer, Call Tracy Engel at 479/785-0582 for more information.

Exhaust System Repair & Muffler Service in Fort Smith, AR 72901

What is the importance of a properly functioning exhaust system?

If your exhaust system isn't functioning correctly, like for instance if you have a clogged or fowled out catalytic converter, your car won't perform properly and you're gas mileage will suffer.

Then there are the obvious things like your emissions (exhaust fumes) being too high, which in some states will cause issues with vehicle inspections, and noise level, which can cause problems with neighbors and cops.

What are the warning signs of a bad muffler?

  1. Bad Smell - When you muffler is doing it's job, it takes the exhaust from your car and pushes it to the  back. If you are noticing a bad smell while driving, this is a serious issue for your car and your health. This is likely due to your muffler not doing it's job and carrying the exhaust out the back so the fumes are getting into your car. If you notice, a smell while driving please visit our store immediately.
  2. Loud Noises - If your muffler is working properly, your car should have a quiet/average volume coming out the back. However, if your muffler isn't properly functioning, your exhaust will become much louder than normal. You and everyone else driving on the road included will know your muffler is underperforming or broken all together.
  3. Lower MPG - Pay attention to your gas mileage. If you seem to be getting less-than-normal miles per gallon, it could be related to your muffler.

What are the benefits of an after market exhaust system?

  1. More power - While choosing an aftermarket exhaust system isn't the go-to performance boost such as getting a turbo charger or fully upgrading your engine, you can squeeze a few more horsepower into your overall performance goal by modifying it. Higher-end after market exhausts allow you to reduce your back pressure, which will give you your end goal of increased horse power.
  2. Better sound - If you are a car enthusiast, like myself, the sound and the overall tone of the car is important. Every exhaust has a different tone. Although it takes a well-tuned ear to able to pick up on them closely, you can seek out the exact tone to your taste.
  3. Customize your system - There are multiple variations you can select once you decide to customize your exhaust. You can choose from a cat-back, a header back or an axle-back system.
  4. Improved Fuel Economy -  As you have probably picked up on this by now, a better performing exhaust system equals better fuel economy.

New Year, New You

It’s the New Year, and it’s time for a new you, right? Not according to most statistics. In fact, reportedly 73% of people who make resolutions fail on them most of the time. But there is a solution! You can get ahead of the pack by following these quick tips on how to have the most success with your New Year’s plans.

Work On Your Self-Restraint

Scientists have revealed the willpower and self-restraint actually function much like a muscle—the more you use it, the stronger it gets. So if you want to be successful in achieving not only your New Year’s resolution, but also your goals in general, you should try to practice self-restraint to bulk up your willpower muscle. Also, give your brain some help with the control by making the things you are trying to do more attractive.

Commitment Buddy

Having an accountability partner will help you stay committed to your goals. They’ll help you stay on track, but they’ll also help motivate you to get back on the horse if you slip up.

Setting goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound are a great way to make sure you’ll be more successful in achieving them. Pay special attention to the “T” many people who set New Year’s Resolutions think they have the whole year. The only problem is that they don’t create timely check-ins during that long time period to make sure they stay on track. It’s a better idea to set a big annual goal, but then break it up into what you should achieve monthly in order to stay on track for the end of the year.

One Change At A Time

It’s tempting to create a bunch of goals all at the same time, like losing 20 pounds, saving more money, spending more time with your kids, and get more exercise. But the reality is that it’s unlikely that you will be able to completely transform yourself in the matter of a few short days or weeks. Instead, set one, manageable goal at a time, set a shorter time period in which to achieve it, say 1-3 months, and then once you’ve achieved the first goal, move onto the next. This will allow you to focus on successfully completing one goal at a time, while simultaneously having the benefit of creating positive momentum as you achieve each goal.

Create A Plan

Having a plan will allow you to create a roadmap, which will help you navigate your way from goal setting to goal achieving.

This year I’m committed to not only setting but also achieving my New Year’s resolutions. I’m going to follow these tips to help guide me there. I hope you find them helpful, too!

4.0/5.0 Star Rating

The 2016 Chrysler Town & Country is a good choice for minivan shoppers looking for luxurious accommodations at an attractive price.

Versatile rear seating and cargo bay configurations; plentiful standard and optional features.
— Edmunds
The 2016 Chrysler Town & Country may look a lot like the one Chrysler has been selling for the last few years. But back in 2011, the Town & Country received a thorough rejuvenation, including a fresh interior and a new V6, which dramatically improved its driving experience and its list of standard equipment. It was finally the well-rounded product that it should have been from the beginning.

Compared to its mechanical twin — the very similar, bargain-priced Dodge Grand Caravan — the Town & Country is pricier. However, it also comes with a lot more standard equipment, including a DVD entertainment system and leather upholstery. And a recently added S model brings a sporty flair to the table.

There’s clearly a market for luxurious minivans. Particularly when loaded with options, the Town & Country undercuts comparably equipped Japanese-brand competitors by thousands of dollars without feeling excessively cheap inside. In fact, the dressy interior delivers quite a sense of occasion.

Healthy Halloween!

It’s October and the aisles at the grocery store have been packed with Halloween candy since the end of August. Everywhere you look there’s variety packs, chocolate pumpkins and scary delicious treats. But candy isn’t the only thrilling goodies available this time of year; your local farmer’s markets also offer a bounty of healthy and yummy surprises.

Here are some of my favorite treats that are in season this time of year:

Apples are like nature’s candy. Just add cinnamon and a touch of sugar and you’ve got a dessert that’ll please even the pickiest of eaters. Apple crisp is a favorite at my house, but really you can’t go wrong adding a new apple recipe to your repertoire. Remember, an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Sweet Potatoes

Nothing’s better than a perfectly roasted sweet potato. Whether you like to turn up the sweetness by adding a little brown sugar or go the spicy route by adding chili powder, you can’t go wrong with this slow-digesting, healthy carb. They’re even a great addition to enchiladas.

From kale to spinach to collard greens October is a great time to work more leafy greens into your diet because they thrive in slightly cooler temperatures. But these leafy vegetables can do more than just your average salad. They are also a great addition to soups, stews, smoothies, eggs and even pizza. Pump up the nutrition on any of these old stand-bys in no time just by adding a handful of these leafy vegetables.

Pumpkins aren’t just for carving anymore! Pumpkins are a great addition to sweets like muffins, pancakes and oatmeal, but they can also go savory in chili, hummus and lasagna. Don’t forget to toast the seeds!

Adding these fruits and veggies to your menu is a great way to get additional nutrients into your families meal plan to balance out all of the candy from Halloween. Check them out! I hope you enjoy!
